Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge Closes

On a Special Event Saturday, October 18th Due to Storm System Ana

Kīlauea, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i – The Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge will be closed to the public on Saturday, October 18th with the approach of storm system Ana.

All activities scheduled to occur that day in celebration of National Wildlife Refuge Week will also be canceled including Lighthouse Tours and the hike to Mōkōlea Point. “The timing is unfortunate, however, the health and safety of visitors and our staff are of utmost importance,” states Shannon Smith, Project Leader for the Kaua‘i National Wildlife Refuge Complex. Precautions are being taken to protect the property and secure the various structures on the Refuge, including the Daniel K. Inouye Kīlauea Point Lighthouse which was recently restored.

Pending the outcome of storm system Ana, the Refuge will re-open to the public at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21st, following the usual closure days of Sunday and Monday.
