Sheraton Kauai Resort is proud to present its 2nd Annual RumFest at RumFire Poipu Beach to celebrate National Rum Day from 6 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014. The event, which will be held in the resort’s open-air Ocean Courtyard, will feature Hawai‘i-made rums, island music and heavy pūpū (appetizers) from the resort’s signature restaurant, RumFire Poipu Beach. A silent auction will be held during the festivities to benefit the Kaua‘i Humane Society.

Event goers will enjoy socializing around the Ocean Courtyard’s fire pits and connecting with local premium rums at RumFest at RumFire’s tasting stations. Featured libations include Kaua‘i’s own Kōloa Rum and Old Lahaina, Maui Rum and Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum – all produced in the islands. Guests are welcome to try each of the more than 15 varieties available at the event and enjoy a cocktail from their favorite.

Tastings are complemented by an array of pūpū from RumFire’s kitchen, including Spicy Lemongrass Chicken with green papaya salad, Grilled Pork Belly with rum-spiked poha berry jam, Seared Ahi Tataki with lilikoi shrimp salsa and Blackened Mahi Mahi with roasted corn and heirloom tomato relish. Desserts include Koloa Rum pineapple upside down cake, flourless chocolate cake bites with rum-spiked cherrie and li hing mui pineapple fruit cups. Live local entertainment will be provided throughout the event by Santiago Soto and the Steps.

As part of the RumFest at RumFire festivities, guests are welcome to participate in a silent auction to benefit the Kaua‘i Humane Society. Founded in 1952 to protect Kaua‘i’s animals and to promote the human – animal bond, the Kaua‘i Humane Society is an independent and private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that receives no funding from mainland humane organizations, the State or Federal government. The organization depends on the contributions of donors to continue to fund programs and services that are vital to the community and the island’s animals. Programs and services provided by the Kaua‘i Humane Society include pet adoptions, low cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinics, the nationally recognized pet field trip program, Critter Camp for the keiki (children) of Kaua‘i , the Save Our Shearwaters (SOS) program, and volunteer programs.

Ticket prices for RumFire at RumFest are $50 inclusive tax and gratuity and include a chance to win a variety of door prizes, as well as earn the holder a 15% discount for one dinner at RumFire throughout the month of August.

RumFire is the south shore’s hotspot for ocean front dining boasting 180-degree oceanfront views from all of its 240 seats. Guests dining at RumFire enjoy Hawaii-rooted cuisine with a global twist such its Coconut-Crab Luau Dip, Kaua‘i Shrimp & Clams, and signature Crab-Crusted Catch of the Day. Tantalizing cocktails include smoldering libations such as the rum-based Flaming Mai Tai, served exclusively at the RumFire bar.
