Taste of Hawai‘i, “The Ultimate Sunday Brunch,” once again brought hundreds of people to Smith’s Tropical Paradise in Wailua last Sunday.

Kaua‘i Grill manager Antonio Palamares attempted to break the Guinness World Record of 26 champagne bottles opened with a saber in one minute. Notice the broken bottle top flying near the Maui Brewing Co. tent.

The Rotary Club of Kapa‘a’s trademark fundraising event — first held in 1988 — showcased more than 30 food establishments, 17 beverage distributors, about 10 concerts in three locations and a large silent auction.

Besides all the fun, food and drinks, this year’s event showed an impeccable organization, inside and outside the event.

Volunteers kept the event running smooth inside Smith’s Tropical Paradise, while Kaua‘i Police Department officers helped to make sure the traffic flowed safely by the event’s entrance. Additionally, dozens of high-school students helped Zero Waste Kaua‘i to recycle as much waste as possible.

The money raised during the event helps Rotary to fund youth and homeless programs, college scholarships, green initiative awards, community projects and recognitions, and the Anahola Diabetes and Wellness Fair.

See you next year at the 2015 Taste of Hawai‘i.
