Hands on a globeKauaʻi Community College will celebrate Earth Day 2014 on April 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds between the Campus Center and Fine Arts buildings.

U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz will be present from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon to share his views on the importance of honoring Earth Day and celebrate this student-led event, as reported by the University of Hawai‘i.

The event is being led and organized by student government leaders of the Associated Students of UH KCC, Student Activities Council, and the students’ Sustainability Club of UH KCC, and supported by KCC’s Ho’ouluwehi – The Sustainable Living Institute of Kauaʻi.

The free event is open to locals, visitors, students, faculty and staff. There will be food, music, giveaway prizes, exhibits and an opportunity to visit with members of KCC student clubs.

KCC is encouraging all nonprofit and for-profit vendors to celebrate with them by offering products or services, and sharing information about sustainable living.

The goal of the event is to heighten awareness and offer positive and practical sustainable solutions, according to UH. Earth Day is April 22, but event is a day prior.
