Hukilau Lanai restaurant in Kapaa is putting together a fundraiser event this Monday, starting at 6 p.m., to defray expenses from employee Harmony Harwell’s battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“Harmony is one of our beloved employees,” restaurant owner Krissi Miller said. “It’s something we would do for any of our employees.”

Diners will be treated to a buffet dinner, entertainment by five musical groups, a belly dancing troupe and a silent auction.

Harwell, 32, has worked for Hukilau Lanai as a server since 2009. Restaurant owners Ron and Krissi Miller, along with manager Angela Hoover, decided to host a fundraiser immediately after they found out Harwell’s diagnosis.

“This illness has struck Harmony’s family very unexpectedly,” Hoover said. “One hundred percent of the profits from this event will go directly to Harmony. She’s a spirited and active young woman and we’re so honored to help.”

Miller said Harwell is currently unable to work.

“We’re looking forward to having her back, but she needs financial assistance, so we wanted to help her out,” Miller said.

The entertainment lineup will be Dennis Chun, Jeff Caldwell, Vic & the Victimz, Sudeeka Belly Dancers, Johnny 5 and Applesauce.

The buffet dinner includes four types of salads, shrimp dumplings, ahi poke nachos, candied ahi, Hukilau’s famous meatloaf, smoked meat, charcuterie assortment, grilled veggie platter, cheese-stuffed pasta, pork cutlet Parmesan, grilled blackened fish, beef and veggie stir fry, vegetable ragout with polenta, beef stroganoff and a selection of desserts.

Tickets are almost sold out. They cost $40 per person, and are available at (808) 822-0600 or in person until Sunday after 12:30 p.m.
