28th Annual Taste of Hawaii Brings Kauai Together

To Support Projects for Rotary and Kauai Non-Profits

The Rotary Club of Kapaa is gearing up for the 28th Annual Taste of Hawaii, “The Ultimate Sunday Brunch,TM” to take place on June 5. Taste of Hawaii was not only the first event of its kind in the islands, it has consistently been a statewide favorite attracting more than 1,500 attendees annually.

Voted the “Best Community Event” on Kauai, eight years running, the event will once again take place at Smith’s Tropical Paradise in Wailua. From 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., attendees can enjoy unlimited servings of the best dishes from over 40 of Hawaii’s finest chefs, and the best micro-brewed beers from around the state, along with a dozen music ensembles performing on four stages on 20 acres of lush, tropical paradise.

Produced by the Rotary Club of Kapaa, the event funds the club’s ongoing community service activities throughout the island. “This year we’re doing something different with our volunteers,” stated President Elect Josie Cortez, co-chair of this year’s event. “We are orchestrating the event with 17 different volunteer groups, including all of the other Rotary Clubs.” Each organization will receive some of the proceeds supporting their various community endeavors. So not only will this over-the-top culinary event support the club’s generous efforts in giving back to the Kauai community, it will assist a 16 other organizations in their work as well. This year the Kapaa club contributed $25,000 to expand Junior Achievement of Kauai. Over $100,000 raised from Taste of Hawaii in recent years was donated to Aloha Angels to adopt all classrooms at Kapaa and Kekaha elementary schools and to fund after-school mentoring clubs at Kapaa Elementary.
