The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas announced the 2015 recipients for its 3rd Annual Scholarship Program. Graduating seniors Ariel Cummings of Kīlauea and Hazel-Lyn Jarquio of Kapa‘a each received $1,500, and University of Hawaii at Mānoa student Kekoa Dolor of Kapa‘a received $1,000 to aid in the cost of pursuing higher education.

A recent graduate of Kapa‘a High School, Cummings will attend Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona to pursue a degree in business administration and management. With her degree, she hopes to return to Kaua‘i to provide additional jobs to the community. Her mother is Lani Cummings, Senior Marketing Services Coordinator, and her grandmother is Lilay Layaoen, a cook at The Westin Princeville.

Jarquio graduated from Kapa‘a High School with a 4.0 GPA, and will attend the University of Hawaii at Mānoa. She plans to pursue a degree in nursing to become a nurse practitioner specializing in pediatrics. With her degree, Jarquio hopes to stay in Hawai‘i to support the islands’ children in living a healthier life. Her father is Nato Jarquio in the Princeville Market at the resort.

Dolor is a current student at UH Mānoa. He looks forward to graduating from the university and continuing to medical school to pursue a Doctorate degree in Psychiatry. Dolor would like to practice in Hawai‘i to give back to the community where he was raised. Dolor’s father is Dante Dolor, a shuttle driver at the resort.

“We are delighted to support our associates and their families’ dedication to a great education and ambitions for the future,” said Denise Wardlow, General Manager of The Westin Princeville.

The annual scholarship funds are raised through year-round, resort-wide efforts by Westin Princeville staff. Children and grandchildren of Westin Princeville associates are eligible to apply for the yearly educational scholarship.
